Tong Bei Connections

On the 9th June 2013, Senior Student Rob Henry attended a Tong Bei Seminar held in Battersea, London by Grandmaster Sha Jun Jie and his wife Master Li Bin. The event was hosted by the Jeffrey Alexander School of Martial Arts (JASMA). Grandmaster Sha Jun Jie is the son of the late Grandmaster Sha Guo Zheng who was world renowned for his high level of skill in Tong Bei Quan, Xing Yi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang and Tai Chi Quan.

Our own Tong Bei Master Qui Ji Zhong was one of the top disciples of Grandmaster Sha Guo Zheng and was one of a limited number of people lucky enough to be taught the true essence of the very secretive Tong Bei Quan (along with XYQ, BGZ & TCQ) outside of the Sha family.

The seminar taught Tong Bei exercises & techniques and the first part of the Lui Lu Tong Bei form.

Rob had this to say about the seminar:
"The tuition was excellent and my most sincere thanks to Jeff, Birinder, and the students at JASMA for all of their help and making me feel so welcome."

Key:

Grandmaster Sha Jun Jie - Right-hand chair
Master Li Bin - Left-hand chair
TBQ Disciple of GM Sha JJ: Jeffrey Sutherland - Back row 6th from left
TBQ Disciple of GM Sha JJ: Hans-Kurt Schafer - Back row 7th from left
TBQ Disciple of GM Sha JJ: Birinder Tember - Back row 8th from left
BFTBQ Senior Student Rob Henry - Back row 5th from left

Just to show how good our lessons are ;-) a collection of the feedback we have received on our Facebook site has been posted in the Feedback section on this site. And it seems to be good all round. Thanks to the students for taking the time to post their thoughts.

My personal favourite [re: The Martial Arts Show 2012]:

Paul Gristock

"Yeah great weekend, great demo and great Seminar. Mat earned his ice cream. I look forward to the pictures."

Many thanks to all who attended TMAS and either demonstrated or helped out at the seminar.
You made it a resounding success and helped promote our art.

Chief UK Instructor Mike Farr

Photos from the event can be viewed in the photos section and the videos in the TMAS video section.

The Martial Arts Show (TMAS), Birmingham NEC - May 12 & 13

posted 5 May 2012, 09:22 by Ba Fang Tong Bei Quan   [ updated 29 May 2012, 13:21 by Ba Fang Tong Bei Quan ]

The Martial Arts Show (TMAS) is massive martial arts event held annually at Birmingham NEC, and this year, we at Ba Fang Tong Bei Quan will be taking part. Web Link: themartialartsshow.com

Instructor Mat Williams and senior student Matt Thomas will be demonstrating our 2nd fist set called Yi Lu (First Road) or Shi Ba Lo Han Quan (Eighteen Lo Han Fist) with some accompanying techniques. This demonstration will be at 13:25 on Sat 12th May and at 11:45 on Sun 13th May in the Lei Tai zone of the arena.

Chief instructor Mike Farr will be demonstrating a higher form of Hong Quan (Big/Vast Fist) as part of the 'Chinese Masters Demonstration' from 14:55 on Sat 12th May again in the Lei Tai zone, and will also be showing some accompanying applications of the form.

On Sunday 13th May at 13:15 we will be holding an hour long seminar on Ba Fang Tong Bei body mechanics. This is likely to be an eye opener to many people as we can show you how easy it is to control another person's balance, no matter their size or shape! Disclaimer: Please be aware that these techniques can often be more effective than you first realise!

We hope that whoever is heading to the show can pay us a visit.

See you there...
